Can breast augmentation be done using body fat?
Posted October 31, 2011 3:12 PM in Breast Augmentation

Question

Question:
Can breast augmentation be done using body fat? I'm worried about the implants leaking.

Answer:
Breast augmentation with fat is a very new and popular procedure that we perform in our practice.  Patients using fat can generally only get modest increases in size and they need to have enough fat to do this.  Patients need to come in for evaluation to see if they are good candidates for this.

This is an excellent question for the patient to discuss with their doctor treating their multiple sclerosis.  Different doctors have different opinions on this.  However, it should be okay and should not cause a problem.

Question

Question:
I have very large breasts. Over the past several years I've developed back pain that is pretty much constant. Given this, would a breast reduction surgery be covered by my insurance?

Answer:
Insurance sometimes covers breast reduction. You need to check with your insurer and come in or a consultation to see whether your insurer will pay for this.

Can I choose the site of the incision for my breast implants?
Posted August 22, 2011 3:15 PM in Breast Augmentation

Question

Question:
My breasts are just too small for the rest of my body. I would like breast augmentation and I'm planning surgery for a birthday present to myself. Can I choose where I want the incision or is that your decision? Is this performed with local anesthesia?

Answer:
Our preference is for general anesthesia for breast augmentation and the under the muscle position for the implants. In terms of the incision, we usually leave this up to the patient but many times this is determined by the shape and size of the breasts. For very small breast I prefer the areola incision and for more pendulous breast I prefer the inframammary incision, although this is something we discuss with the patient and we have them help us with this decision.
