Do facelift stitches need to be removed by the doctor?

Question

Question:
I understand after a facelift there will be stitches placed after surgery to hold the skin in place. Do these stitches need to be removed by the doctor? How soon after my surgery will I go back for an appointment?

Answer:
In our practice with our facelifts, we do subcuticular suturing so there are no external sutures.  We do use a suture that needs to be removed for the incisions by the ear, but behind the ear sutures we use an absorbable suture.  Patients usually come in the day after surgery to be checked and the sutures that do need to be removed are done approximately one to two weeks after surgery.
