Fat transfer to cheeks.
Posted August 19, 2011 8:55 AM in Fat Transfer

Question

Question:
I'm a 38-year-old woman. I am thinking of having a fat transfer to my cheeks under my eyes. Where is the fat taken from and how is it obtained? Can I choose wherever in my body the fat is taken from?

Answer:
Fat transfer to the face is a very common procedure and fat needs to be removed from somewhere through liposuction to be able to transfer to the face. This is usually taken from the most prominent area and the patient has a say in where we obtain the fat from.

Can buttocks and liposuction be done simultaneously?

Question

Question:
I'm interested in getting fat transfer to my buttocks. Can I combine with liposuction of my abdomen to improve my tummy as well? I'm hoping this way, the fat removed from liposuction could be used for the fat transfer.

Answer:
If you're performing fat transfer to the buttocks, you have to get the fat from somewhere so the abdomen would be as good of a place as any as to remove fat from. Typically we do liposuction in the areas that have the most fat and then transfer it to the area that needs fat such, as the buttocks but also the breast or the face.

Fat grafting is a wonderful procedure to improve the volume of the cheeks.

Question

I would like plastic surgery on my cheeks. They've gotten very thin. I'm interested in fat transfer for this. Where do you get the fat from on the body? How much do you remove, and is it treated first before being put in my cheeks? Is it injected into the cheeks?

Fat grafting is a wonderful procedure to improve the volume of the cheeks. It is something we regularly do in our practice. The fat is obtained from areas of the body that have more fat, typically the abdomen, flanks, or the thighs. It's usually treated with centrifugation but may be treated with Cytori Puregraft obtained through the body-jet which produces a very wonderful fat. There are more advanced techniques which totally dissolve the fat and use the regenerative cells in the fat to be injected back into the face. This is a much newer technique and it is just becoming popular at this time. The fat is then injected back into the cheeks through a small blunt cannula.
