A clitoral reduction is a plastic surgery procedure that reduces the size of the glands and the shaft of the clitoris. It is often accompanied by a labiaplasty. An abnormally enlarged or elongated clitoris is occasionally seen as a specific inherited genetic disorder, or as a result of exposure to androgenic hormones during pregnancy. More commonly, it is the result of the utilization of anabolic steroids for the purpose of increasing muscle size or strength,? generally undertaken by women athletes or bodybuilders. Unfortunately, while muscle development may be the result, an elongated or enlarged clitoris is often a side effect.
Good Candidates
Healthy women with realistic expectations who are concerned about the size of the clitoral hood due to sexual/social embarrassment or physical discomfort are good candidates for this procedure.
How the procedure is performed
Clitoral Reduction is performed under either IV sedation or general anesthesia in our Boca Raton accredited in-office surgery suite on an outpatient basis. Using delicate nerve and sensation-sparing cosmetic surgery, the clitoris is restored to normal size and appearance. There are no sutures to remove as those used are absorbed. The length of the procedure is generally under one hour.
What to expect during recovery
Postoperatively, discomfort is minimal to moderate for about two days, during which you may take Tylenol for discomfort. Full healing is usually complete in three to four weeks. During the 3-4 weeks of recovery we recommend that you abstain from stimulating the clitoris to avoid trauma.
