Procedure Overview
Vaginal tightening, called vaginoplasty or more correctly, vaginal colporrhaphy is a plastic surgery procedure to tighten the vaginal walls and muscles after they have become weakened and stretched from childbearing or vigorous life-style of lifting, exercising,etc.. Vaginal tightening can also increase sexual pleasure for both the woman and her partner. In general, the vagina and supportive tissues and musculature becomes stretched and often torn during childbirth—even with the birth of just one child. This includes the area known as the “pelvic floor”. A Vaginoplasty can surgically tighten and rejuvenate the vagina, the perineum and the supporting muscles.
Although Kegel exercises can strengthen the pelvic
diaphragm (the ones that stretch during childbirth) and can make them stronger so you don’t experience leaking urine when you sneeze, they cannot make the vagina smaller or restore it to the pre-pregnancy state. For that purpose, a surgical procedure is required.
Good candidates
If you’re experiencing the problems noted above and you are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and have realistic expectations, a vaginal tightening procedure may be appropriate for you.
How the procedure is performed
Vaginal tightening is performed under general anesthesia in our Boca Raton accredited in-office surgery suite on an outpatient basis. The surgery involves opening the vaginal wall to restore the anatomy of the pelvic floor muscles and connective tissue and takes approximately one hour to complete. There is no no external scarring.
What to expect during recovery
During the recovery period, there is generally minimal pain and swelling. Normal activities can be resumed the next day, driving in 2 days and sexual activities in four weeks. The internal incisions heal in three to four weeks.
