Forehead Lift (Brow Lift)

Procedure overview

A forehead lift or “browlift” is a procedure that restores a more youthful, refreshed look to the area above the eyes. The procedure corrects drooping brows and improves the horizontal lines and furrows that can make a person appear angry, sad or tired.

Good candidates

If you’re experiencing deep forehead creases, drooping eyebrows or eyelid hooding and you are otherwise healthy, a forehead lift or browlift may be appropriate for you. Some patients tired of receiving BOTOX injection may opt for a browlift to permanently remove the frowning muscles that are typically injected with BOTOX.

How the procedure is performed

Brow lifts are performed under either IV sedation or general anesthesia in our Boca Raton accredited in-office surgery suite on an outpatient basis. There are two procedures used here at SMAC Plastic Surgery: endoscopic or open procedures. The endoscopic procedure, which involves placing four tiny incisions in the hair, is the least invasive. This is the method we perform most frequently. Patients who have an extremely high hairline may opt for a hairline incision which also lowers the hairline. The decision as to which procedure will be used is made in consultation with your surgeon during your consultation. The length of the procedure ranges from one to two hours.

What to expect during recovery

For the endoscopic procedure, recovery time ranges from about 5 to 7 days. The open procedure will require about 3 more days to recover, on average. Most patients are back to full activity within two weeks. You will experience some bruising and swelling around the eyes and forehead which can be relieved with cold compresses or ice packs for the first few days, and Tylenol can be taken for discomfort. You’ll come back into the office within the first few days for your first postoperative visit at which time any non-absorbable sutures will be removed, depending on your rate of healing.
