Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty or suction lipectomy in the medical field, is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed on adult men and women that removes excess fat from underneath the skin. It can be used to rid you of saddlebags and love handles, and to sculpt areas such as the upper arms, calves, around the knees, the outer breast area, the back, and on the face such as underneath the chin, in the neck and in the cheeks. Liposuction is not a weight loss tool, though many people mistakenly think that it is. Liposuction can remove stubborn areas of fat that have not responded to your best efforts at exercise and weight loss.

The liquefied fat is usually then suctioned with a small cannula although sometimes suction is not needed for very small areas. Lasers for liposuction are made by a number of different companies and at Sanctuary Plastic Surgery we generally use the Sciton® ProLipo device as we were involved with its development and testing.

A tummy tuck, called abdominoplasty in the medical field, is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed on adult men and women that removes excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdominal area and tightens the muscles in the abdominal wall. This scar will fade over time but will never completely disappear.
It’s been the subject of many conversations between women for decades – cellulite. How to get rid of that cottage cheese like texture, that even the skinniest of women are subject to? Often confused with something that you can diet and exercise your way out of, cellulite is a structural problem not a “fat” problem. It requires a change in the relationship of the skin, fat, connective tissue and underlying muscle that creates those unsightly dimples.

Arm Lift procedures, called brachioplasty, are performed to eliminate the excess fat and skin that sometimes occurs under the arms as a result of normal aging or following weight loss. While you may lose additional weight through a brachioplasty, this procedure is not meant as a weight-loss tool, but as post-weight-loss sculpting under the upper arm.
Mini-arm lift procedures, called a mini-brachioplasty, are performed to eliminate a minor amount of excess fat and skin that sometimes occurs under the upper arms as a result of normal aging or following weight loss. Similar to a regular brachioplasty or arm lift, a mini removes less fat and skin and instead of a scar running under the arm from elbow to armpit, the entire scar can often be located in the armpit where it is much less noticeable.
