Address your entire torso in a single procedure

After gynecomastia surgery, some men are dismayed at the contrast between their newly sculpted chest and their belly or love handles. They wish they could have done something to improve the appearance of  their entire torso all at once. This is where torsoplasty comes in. Combining gynecomastia surgery with liposuction, torsoplasty addresses the entire torso from the collarbone down to the lower abdomen and sides.

Am I a torsoplasty candidate?

Simple gynecomastia surgery typically has a very positive effect on the physical and emotional well-being of patients. In many cases they will be more motivated to take care of their bodies and work out, as they no longer feel the need to hide their chest. However, you can’t decide where you lose weight first. Usually, the last places to lose fat are the abdomen, love handles, and chest. Liposuction can help target specific locations of the body that are difficult to change with diet and exercise alone.

You may be a suitable candidate for torsoplasty if:

  • You have excess skin and fat on your abdomen that you wish to get rid of.
  • You are at or near a healthy weight. Torsoplasty is not a procedure for very overweight patients.
  • You are unhappy with several parts of your torso, such as your breasts, love handles, and belly.

What is torsoplasty surgery like?

Prior to your surgery, you and Dr. Jacobs will go over every aspect of the surgery together. He will ask you questions about your personal aesthetic goals and go over what to expect in terms of the procedure itself as well as your results. He will also help you take any needed steps to prepare for surgery.

On the day of your surgery, you will arrive at Sanctuary Plastic Surgery’s ambulatory operating room suite. You will be under twilight sedation for the full duration of your procedure, which is usually between 3 and 4 hours. Dr. Jacobs will perform the gynecomastia part of your procedure first, followed by liposuction in the appropriate areas (this will be determined by you and Dr. Jacobs prior to your surgery)

How long will it take me to recover?

After your surgery, you will rest for a few hours, after which you can go home. You will need to be accompanied by a friend or loved one who can assist you. Dr. Jacobs will give you detailed post-operative instructions. It is important that you follow these closely to ensure a smooth healing process.

You will wear a compression garment for the first month or so. This will help your body heal more rapidly. You will need to plan to be away from work for 2 to 3 weeks (more if you have a very physically strenuous job).
