Am I a Good Candidate for Chin Implants?

Chin implants are a great way to correct what you might consider to be a weak or soft jawline, giving you a more distinguished chin, which can help you enjoy an increased sense of facial symmetry and harmony.

Chin implant surgery can be performed on any healthy adult with the problems mentioned above. Your surgeon will discuss the risks and benefits of chin implant surgery at your consultation to confirm that this particular implant is the best course of action for your needs.

You're likely a great candidate for a chin implant procedure if you're dealing with:

  • Weak chin
  • Disproportionately small chin
  • Lack of facial proportion
  • Decreased facial harmony
  • Weak jawline

Creating a Sense of Facial Harmony

When it comes to creating the results of your dreams, we pride ourselves in our ability to craft naturalistic, elegant results that emphasize your sense of facial symmetry and harmony. During your consultation, we'll help you explore your options, as sometimes our patients like to combine chin augmentation with other procedures, for optimal results. Anything from skin resurfacing to a non-surgical lip lift can help to complement the results of your chin augmentation, enabling you to enjoy a sense of facial symmetry that sees you putting your very best face forward, every single day.

How Chin Implant Surgery Is Performed

Chin implant procedures are performed under either general anesthesia,  IV sedation or local anesthesia or general anesthesia in our Boca Raton accredited in-office surgery suite on an outpatient basis. If performed during another facial cosmetic procedure, such as a facelift, it will be done under general anesthesia or IV sedation.

During the procedure, an incision is placed underneath the chin, behind the crease. The silicone or MEDPOR implant is inserted then stabilized with sutures or screws and the tissues and skin sutured after the skin has been redraped around the new framework. The procedure takes about 30 minutes if no other procedure is being performed.

What to Expect During Recovery

After a chin implant procedure, the recovery time is very brief but may be slightly longer if additional procedures were done at the same time, such as a facelift. You will experience some swelling and bruising which can be relieved with pain medication and ice packs. Most patients are back to full activity within two to four days, though you will wear a chin strap for about a week.

You will be most comfortable if you eat a soft diet during this recovery time. When you leave our office after the procedure, you are generally seen the next day and at about a week at which time the sutures will be removed. You should avoid strenuous physical activity for about a week after your procedure and avoid any contact sports or other activities that might cause trauma to the implant.
