Rhinoplasty Surgery with Sanctuary Plastic Surgery

An important aspect to consider about nose reshaping is that your nose should look as though it “fits” on your particular face. Choosing a nose shape based on a popular look or trend will be unsatisfactory in the end. Sanctuary Plastic Surgery will work with you to create the best possible shape for your nose, so that your nose is in the correct balance with the rest of your facial features.

Good Candidates for Nose Reshaping

If you're located in Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, or the nearby areas, and you're physically healthy, psychologically stable, and have realistic expectations, you will be a good candidate. Age is a consideration, as our surgeons prefer to operate on teenagers only after they have completed their growth spurt. Most insurance policies don’t cover our rhinoplasty in Boca Raton & West Palm Beach unless it is performed for reconstructive purposes, to correct a breathing problem or a deformity.

Your Rhinoplasty Options

Your procedure will be performed as an open rhinoplasty or closed rhinoplasty. The decision about which type of rhinoplasty you have, either open or closed, is an important one. Your surgeon will take a number of factors into consideration before deciding on the best option to suit your unique needs and goals.

Open Rhinoplasty

An open rhinoplasty is performed if your needed alterations are more complex. If you want to make a significant change, the best procedure is an open rhinoplasty. During open rhinoplasty, small incisions are made on the outside of the nose. These are precisely done and designed to be hidden in the natural folds of your skin. The open rhinoplasty approach allows your surgeon to lift the nasal skin and expose the underlying nasal structures. This gives greater access and achieves more accurate results in a major reshaping of the nose.

Closed Rhinoplasty

A closed rhinoplasty technique uses smaller incisions within the nostrils to achieve the changes you desire. A closed rhinoplasty provides the benefit of leaving no visible scars on your skin. However, it cannot be used if you are looking for a more dramatic change. A closed rhinoplasty is designed for more finite, minor changes, instead of more significant restructuring.

What can nose surgery do for you?

Nose surgery helps patients who would like to change the appearance or functionality of their nose. The nose can be reshaped, made smaller or larger, wider or more narrow, and the tip and nostrils can be refined to achieve a more symmetrical, aesthetic effect. Benefits include the following:

  • Improved breathing through the nose
  • Enhanced facial balance, symmetry and harmony
  • Increased nose size for a pinched or too-small nose
  • Decreased nose size for a humped, bulbous, or too-large nose
  • Refined nostrils
  • Refined, lifted nasal tip to correct a hooked or drooping appearance
  • Reduced or narrowed bridge of the nose
  • Increased bridge of the nose in the case of an earlier unsuccessful rhinoplasty
  • Greatly improved confidence

How a Rhinoplasty is Performed

Rhinoplasty procedures are usually performed under general anesthesia in our Boca Raton accredited in-office surgery suite on an outpatient basis.

Depending upon the final goals and the extent of improvement required, your procedure may be done in either the open or closed method. This will be discussed during your consultation. During the procedure, the skin of the nose is separated from bone and cartilage which is then reshaped. Both permanent and temporary sutures are then placed and the nose is usually packed for a few days following the procedure. The length of the procedure ranges from one to two hours.

What to Expect During Recovery

For a closed rhinoplasty procedure, recovery time ranges from about 5 to 7 days and slightly longer for an open procedure. You will experience some swelling and bruising which may extend into the eyes, causing you to look as though you have black eyes. This can be relieved with pain medication and ice packs. Most patients are back to full activity within two weeks. Youll come back into the office within the first few days for your first postoperative visit at which time any non-absorbable sutures will be removed as well as the packing, depending on your rate of healing. It takes up to 6 months for the final results to be visible, so we advise our patients to exercise patience during this time as we wait for the final shape to appear. During that time, please avoid any contact sports that might injure the nose.

Revision Rhinoplasty

While all surgeons strive to achieve the ideal result in a single procedure, some patients experience problems in healing or because of a lack of communication with the original surgeon in agreeing on what changes they desire in the appearance of their nose. Sanctuary Plastic Surgery not only performs primary rhinoplasties but is often called upon to correct unsatisfactory results of other surgeons’ rhinoplasties.

Our revision rhinoplasty in Boca Raton & West Palm Beach is always more challenging, but Sanctuary Plastic Surgery devotes a significant portion of the practice to this very complex procedure.

What is Revision Rhinoplasty?

Revision rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that corrects a negative outcome from an original rhinoplasty. This may include visual or functional concerns, such as a deviated septum or an over-or under-aggressive approach to nasal features.

The original rhinoplasty surgeon may not have done enough to correct visual imperfections. In some cases, they went too far, resulting in an unusual-looking, misshapen, or imperfectly functioning nose. Because rhinoplasty is such a finesse procedure, it requires exceptional training and a highly-skilled, precise hand. Revision rhinoplasty is even more complex than original rhinoplasty, requiring the very best, most experienced facial plastic surgeon to perform it.

When Should you Revise your Nose Job?

Because swelling after rhinoplasty can last up to one year, it’s imperative that patients wait that amount of time before judging their final results. Even a small amount of residual swelling can subtly alter your appearance and obscure your final outcome. If, after healing is complete, you are still unhappy with certain cosmetic aspects of your nose, it may be prudent to pursue a revision procedure. If there are problems with your breathing or structural imbalances that occurred after the primary surgery, a revision nose job can help repair these concerns. Lastly, if you underwent an accident, injury, or trauma after your rhinoplasty, revision surgery can help restore both form and function.

Why you Need the Right Surgeon

Your nose is the center of your face, and one of the most noticeable parts of your appearance. It’s important to be happy with it and to achieve your ideal results. If you’ve experienced the frustration and disappointment of an unsuccessful rhinoplasty, you know how crucial it is to choose the right surgeon. Rhinoplasty is one of the most difficult and detailed plastic surgeries, which means getting it just right requires years of experience and significant skill.

Revision rhinoplasty can be an even more complex procedure than an initial rhinoplasty. Because of the errors made earlier, your revision rhinoplasty may need the work of a surgeon with more technical skill and experience. For this important procedure, you don’t want to have to worry about feeling let down again. Revision rhinoplasty requires a surgeon who has the ability and expertise to achieve your aesthetic goals no matter the challenges. Choose a highly trained facial plastic surgeon with extensive experience in rhinoplasty surgery and an outstanding record of successful outcomes.

How to Ensure the Best Results

When you’re undergoing revision rhinoplasty, here are some things to keep in mind to ensure your best results and satisfaction.

1. Manage your expectations. Talk to your surgeon and get a clear idea and understanding of what this surgery can realistically achieve for you. Depending on the extent of the previous errors, you may not achieve a 100% perfect nose, but you can certainly achieve results you are much happier about.

2. Ask to see your surgeon’s rhinoplasty revision photos. Study these and ensure they are images from the surgeon you will be working with, and that you like the results you see. These photos can also help you get a better idea about what errors your surgeon has corrected before that were similar to yours, and what the outcomes were.

3. Plan for the possibility of more than one procedure. Depending on the severity of the errors or disfigurement from your previous rhinoplasty, your revision surgery may need to be done in more than one part. While this may be frustrating, it can be a necessary part of the process to achieve the results you want.

4. Don’t look for a “good deal” or go with a surgeon who is promising results for a low price. Revision surgery is complex and expensive for a reason--you need someone highly trained and expert in the field. Their results don’t come inexpensively, but the reward of a successful, attractive outcome is well worth the cost.
