Like any other type of cosmetic surgery, a breast augmentation requires a few weeks of recovery time. While the process may seem intimidating at first, our experienced plastic surgeons will provide you with all of the guidance you need during recovery so you can get back to your daily routine.

Here is the standard timeline for a breast augmentation recovery:

  • 1 Day: Immediately following your surgery, you will be given a compression garment to support your breasts and reduce swelling. You will also need someone to drive you home. While you will need to rest, it may be a good idea to walk around a bit to help with blood circulation.
  • 1-2 Weeks: During the first couple weeks of your recovery, you will need to take some time off from work. You will still have some minor swelling or soreness.
  • 4 Weeks: At this point, your swelling should mostly subside. This means you can wear a sports bra and resume light exercise.
  • 6 Weeks: After six weeks, most patients can start easing into more strenuous exercise or movement.
  • 3 Months: Just a few months after your procedure, you should be mostly recovered from your breast augmentation. This means you can start wearing underwire bras and get back to your normal activities.

Since everybody heals at a different pace, this timeline can be slightly different from patient to patient. However, there are a few ways that you can make your breast augmentation recovery easier. First, make sure you prepare for your surgery by prepping some nutritious meals, cleaning your house, and setting up your recovery room. Next, ask a partner, friend, or family member to help take care of you after your surgery. Finally, rest as much as you can so that your body can heal properly.
